How do I delete all the things that pop up under the search bar?

Every time I type a few letters then the entire phrase is shown beneath the search bar. I have visited a few sities I would prefer others not knowing about. I can delete the ones I remember but how do I delete all of those "hidden" ones. It just takes one word and Bingo! I don't like that.
