I put on high gloss poly on a piece i needed satin.if i put satin on top will it dull it down?

I have put on 1 coat of high gloss. it is on panels that attach to my painted cabinets that are satin sheen. im thinking i can maybe put a few layers of satin on top to dull the sheen? or should i buff the shine out then apply satin? it is a very big difference between the 2 sheens and it looks odd....please help me w/your experience! :) thanks!
