Can somebody please explain to me how the USA is "nothing" without Landon Donovan?

I've heard that asinine statement four times today, and I just want somebody to explain to me how? Didn't Clint Dempsey score the first goal for the United States? Wasn't it Michael Bradley who scored the game tying goal against Algeria? Wasn't it Maurice Edu who scored the perfectly legal, game winning goal? Wasn't it Clint Dempsey who scored the perfectly legal goal against Algeria? A good majority of these goals didn't come from Landon Donovan, so why are people uming that he's America's crutch?
